What happened: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jan. 19 announced $15 billion in marine construction projects. The agency will spread the investments over 48 states, Washington, D.C., and numerous U.S. territories.
Why it matters: This funding is part of the $22.8 billion allocated to the agency via the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2022. What’s next: Another $8 billion in port, waterway, lock, dam, and disaster relief and mitigation projects will be announced at a future date. Congress is working on a new Water Resources Development Act, which will authorize more water transportation infrastructure investments.
