What happened: The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) July 7 announced nearly $1 billion in awards through the Airport Terminal Program (ATP), a discretionary grant program established under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).
Why it matters: The $1 billion will fund more than 90 projects across the U.S. to improve, modernize and expand airport facilities. The awards include:
- $50 million to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to reconfigure and repave terminal roadways.
- $20 million to Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) to add a new terminal.
- $1.6 million to Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV) to add queuing lanes for taxis and buses.
What’s next: The awards announcement is the first round in a five-year program, funded at a total of $5 billion, that is part of $25 billion in total airport investments included in the IIJA. See the full list of projects.
