What happened: Two members of Congress visited major infrastructure projects in Ohio and Virginia Oct. 18, allowing them to see first-hand the safety and transportation improvements coming to their communities.
Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-Va.) visited the Route 7 Corridor Improvement Project in Northern Virginia, where Shirley Contracting is working on multi-modal transportation improvements to a vital commuting corridor. In Toledo, Ohio, Rep. Marcy Kaptur (D-Ohio) toured Kokosing’s new Maumee River Bridge and related highway improvement projects. Check out this local news video piece on Kaptur’s visit.
Both Kaptur and Wexton voted for the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and sit on the House Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for authorizing annual transportation spending levels.
Why it matters: The IIJA is the catalyst behind thousands of new infrastructure projects across the country. The site visits are designed to show lawmakers how these investments are making a difference, helping ensure future commitments to robust federal surface transportation projects.
