What: Three ARTBA member firms shared the safety and health insights that helped them win the association’s 2021 Contractor Safety Awards during a Dec. 7 webinar. Their recorded presentation is available for ARTBA members to review.

Background: The firms were competitively selected based on workplace accident and injury rates as reported to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), their Experience Modification Rates (EMRs) as determined by their insurance carriers, and their safety programs. They were selected as winners in three ranges of personnel hours worked in the previous year based on presentations each made to a panel of judges at the ARTBA’s National Convention in September.

Webinar panelists:

  • Kelly Hill, human resource generalist, W-L Construction & Paving Inc., Chilhowie, Va. Under 500,000 personnel hours.
  • Les Mays, safety manager, Barriere Construction Co., L.L.C., Metairie, La., 500,001 – 1 million personnel hours.
  • O’Brien Mills, director of safety, Aldridge Group, Libertyville, Ill., Over 1 million personnel hours.
  • Brad Sant, ARTBA senior vice president safety and education, moderated.

To view: Visit the members’ portal ARTBA Connect. Under the “Resources” tab, look for the “Best of the Best” webinar replay. You will be asked to enter your name and email, which will automatically deliver the recorded presentation. The presentation slides are available separately.
