What happened: Staff from House and Senate congressional offices Aug. 22 joined ARTBA, the Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance (VTCA) and member companies for a tour of transportation projects in Northern Virginia. The widely-attended event allowed staffers to learn how transportation projects are funded and built, with tours of the Route 7 Corridor Improvement Project, I-66 Express Mobility Project and 495NEXT Project. Virginia’s Department of Transportation (VDOT) discussed its role in permitting, community engagement, and project oversight.

Why it matters: Congressional staff are often involved in crafting policy and funding transportation legislation, and this tour offered an opportunity to highlight what results from those investments.
