Betting on Safety and Mobility in Las Vegas

Challenge: East of the Vegas Strip lies a different kind of crapshoot – navigating I-515 / Charleston Interchange. On any given day pedestrians and drivers face a myriad of hazards and backups. According to Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) this part of the highway saw 593 crashes over a five-year period. The connection with Charleston Boulevard saw 920 crashes over the same time. Total injury and property damage-only crash rates are four times higher than statewide averages. And when traffic backs up, air quality in the basin becomes unhealthy. Delays will worsen in the future if no improvements are made.

The Solution: With help from the federal infrastructure investment law, the I-515/Charleston Interchange Project will improve safety and mobility by widening and reconstructing Charleston Boulevard from Honolulu Street to Sacramento Drive; increasing the number and length of turn lanes from Charleston Boulevard to I-515 ramps; upgrading sidewalks; and constructing new traffic signals at ramp terminals and adjacent local road intersections. If you are a resident or business owner who relies on this part of I-515, a safer route, less traffic and better air quality are just ahead.
